For students taking the two-day Full ERA training course, the following actions MUST be taken:

Please first purchase the American Red Cross (ARC) CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers training here and select the appropriate location for your upcoming training course.  Once we have received your registration, we will send you instructions to access the ARC online training materials.  You will need to complete those prior to attending your in-person ERA session.  You instructor at the ERA will let you know when your CPR training will be conducted.  It is typically performed at the end of Day 1 of the ERA.

No, American Red Cross (ARC) CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers w/ Adult and Infant Barrier Mask Kit is NOT included in the two-day ERA training course.  It IS available as an elective.

Virtual students may complete CPR via the online training module provided through American Red Cross. Students complete the ARC online training— this is an additional and separate registration with the ERA-V.  Students then demonstrate skills at the end of Day 1 of the virtual course.

Virtual ERA

The ERA-V is available for 2021 due to COVID-19 limitations in travel and meeting in large groups. ABPTS and the Sports Council approved the course on October 26, 2020, for use in 2021.

The ERA-V is a virtual course with 3 components to complete. The ERA Online Training Module is the same as that for the Full ERA, and this can take from 5-11 hours of effort. There is an additional requirement in the ERA-V for students to create and upload lab demonstrations and group discussion via Flip grip, which may take about 10 hours to accomplish. Several of these topics require a partner.  Your partner can be a student or not, and we have had students use family members as young as 5 to complete this.  Students must purchase a Sideline Venue Emergency Response Kit (SVERK) or obtain the supplies and equipment needed.  Students must attend a 1.5 day synchronous ZOOM course.

Some assigned items are due a week ahead of the scheduled Virtual ERA, please verify when registering that you have enough time to complete all requirements.

For the FLIPGRID portion there are several topics in the lab sessions you must demonstrate on another person. This person can be just about anyone. Children as young as 5 have been great partners as well as spouses, roommates, parents and friends.

For the practical assessment on Day 2 of the ZOOM course you will need your partner for approximately 30 minutes during testing. Testing order and approximate times are determined by the group in the session at the end of Day 1.

Flipgrid is an education based app that allows instructors and students to interact through the upload of videos, documents and presentations. For the ERA Virtual, this is your lab session.

The Sideline Venue Emergency Response Kit (SVERK) or equivalent is required to ensure that students and instructors are all using the same supplies and equipment and to ensure equity in testing. The Kit or its equivalent is required for the ERA Virtual course.

There is no available CPR in the ERA Virtual course.

Students must complete all prerequisite work 8-days prior to the synchronous ZOOM course so that instructors have time to provide feedback to each student prior to the live session. If students do not complete all the prerequisites they cannot attend the scheduled synchronous ZOOM session. Students may request via email to be moved to a later course.

Transfer requests for course registration received not later than 14 days before the course is scheduled to begin will be honored at no cost provided the gaining course has capacity.
