Mike Evenson, DPT; Paige Borgialli, PTA (ERA certified); and Shenae Alberts, DPT (ERA certified) recently engaged in a Cogent Conversation with Cogent Steps partner Michele “Shelly” Leavitt Weinstein. They shared their experiences in the care and treatment of athletes in rural settings and the challenges that DPTs and PTAs face due to the limited training resources available. Cogent Steps is proud to have certified Paige and Shenae through our Emergency Response for the Athlete certification course, training them in the sideline and venue emergency management of the athlete.

To hear about the experiences of DPTs and PTAs in rural areas, watch the full discussion in the video below or here.

  1. It’s eye-opening to think about how limited resources and geographic isolation can impact the level of care athletes receive. The emphasis on emergency response skills is so important—having properly trained professionals on the sideline can truly make a difference in athletes’ safety and recovery.
