Hydration is key in keeping athletes safe, however overhydration and or the systemic fallout of too much hydration is deadly and needs to be understood, managed and athletes must be educated on the risks. Providers must be ready to provide immediate care.

Understanding the basics of SCT and concerns for athletic participation are key to prevent serious injury and illness in these athletes. Sickle cell trait can have serious ramifications for athletes.
